Learn More About Ray’s Experience & Make the Best Returns on Your Equipment, Collectibles & More in Central Missouri

Ray is a lifelong Missouri resident and has lived in mid-Missouri for decades. As a child, he spent any money he earned on baseball and football cards, and that passion lasted through his twenties. He had safely stored and collected 75,000 sports cards for decades, and after moving to a new home, he decided it was finally time to sell his collection.

He wanted to make sure his cards were handled for their true worth and properly sent to their new owners, and after concluding that selling them all in an auction was the right choice, Ray turned to Atterberry Auction & Realty Company for help with his large sports card collection. The collection was sold in a micro auction among other sports memorabilia, and now he’s ready to share his experience working with mid-Missouri’s auction specialists.

How did you hear about Atterberry Auction & Realty Company?

I have known about Atterberry for a while. We moved to Columbia in January of 1980, and had heard of them in the community.

What did you sell at auction with Atterberry?

I sold my 75,000 sports card collection, mostly baseball and football cards.

How did you feel about the result of the auction?

I earned what I expected from the sale of the cards. It was an easy and simple process, so I am happy with the result.

What was the Atterberry team like when you first came to them for help?

The selling process was easy. They came by the house to see what kind of collection I had, and would let me know when they had another sports card collection auction.

From start to finish, how long did it take you to sell your personal property with Atterberry?

From the first meeting to the sale, the process was completed in about 6 months. This time was spent preparing for the right type of micro auction and gaining a larger audience by featuring multiple sports memorabilia sellers alongside me. The actual auction took about two weeks, and I had a check within a week.

Can you compare selling with Atterberry to the traditional selling process? Are there any problems you’ve had trying to sell in the past?

I tried selling cards on my own, and it did not work out that well. I was trying to sell everything at one time, and no one wanted that many cards. Atterberry put them in 200+ lots, and people could bid on individual lots and not 75,000 cards at one time.

How did Atterberry help you prepare for your auction?

They separated the cards into smaller lots to make it easier for people to buy. They also singled out high-value cards to sell as individual lots. I didn’t have to do anything.

Can you talk about the marketing they did for your personal property before the auction?

They advertised the auction in various ways that reached people who were interested in sports cards.

How was your auction preview experience?

The preview was great because there were so many cards that it was hard to see them all online.

Would you buy or sell personal property with Atterberry Auction & Realty Company again?

I would definitely use them again, and I follow their auctions on social media. My wife and I have visited some of the properties that they have auctioned since then.

What would you say to people who are considering selling personal property in Missouri?

I was able to follow the auction online, and the best part was watching people bid up the higher-priced cards on the last day.
